Raymond J. "Irish" DiCaprio

Born on February 29,1928, from Morningside passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 7th at the age of 95 surrounded by family. He was husband of the late Edith (Hayden) DiCaprio, beloved father of Rena (Phillip) Mosco, Raymond E. (Karen) DiCaprio, Grandfather of Phillip Mosco Jr. and Katherine (James Depfer III) Mosco and Great Grandfather to James Depfer IV. Son of the late Raymond and Catherine DiCaprio he is preceded in death by his three brothers Alexander (Agnes), Nicholas (Maria), and John; sister Anastasia Miele (Anthony) and sister in law Evelyn (Fred) Stinelli. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family Man. Irish and Edie would Jitterbug and Polka dance at social events on one hand and he would dutifully bring her to bingo nights on the other. He brought life and laughter to the yearly family reunions. He was particularly devoted to his grandchildren going out of his way to never miss a milestone event ranging from baptisms, to birthdays and graduations and even their driving tests. Simple activities like golfing with his son Ray or cooking and doing jigsaw puzzles with his daughter Rena gave him joy. Even during his darkest days his great grandson brought out his brightest smile.

Urban Farmer. He along with his father and brothers worked the last urban farm in the City of Pittsburgh in Stanton Heights; where they also headquartered the family landscaping business which kept the neighborhoods looking good for decades. He never stopped cultivating his home garden or critiquing the next generations’ landscaping work.

Soldier. Irish was proud of his service to his country as a sergeant in the First Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army fighting in the Korean War and would regularly attend his service reunions. He was never without his Korean War Veteran hat.

Irish was a kind, generous and gentle man with a surprisingly wicked sense of humor. He will be missed by both friends and family.
