Gladys M. Dixon Hurst
Mrs. Hurst, 73, of West Deer Twp. and formerly of Shaler Twp., passed away from complications of a long battle with Parkinson's disease, on Sunday morning, May 26, 2013 at her home. She was born on March 21, 1940 in Boyd County, Kentucky to the late Mitchell and Marie (Robinette) Dixon. She married Rom C. Hurst of Ashland, KY on April 18, 1964 and they had a happy life together. Gladys was the loving mother of Kimberly (Don) Nyalka of Whitehall and R. Steven (Brittany) Hurst of Hampton and the proud grandmother of Katelyn Nyalka, R. Mitchell and Colin Hurst; sister of the late Anna Lorene, Mitchell, Jr., James Roy and Warren Edward Dixon. She worked for Northwood Realty and for the breast cancer prevention research studies at the University of Pittsburgh and AGH before retiring in 2000. She enjoyed her family immensely and also loved time spent outside gardening. She is also survived by nephews, other family and friends in both Pennsylvania and Kentucky. The family would like to thank Family Hospice for their kind care of Gladys at home in recent months.
