Dorothy Flavin

Heaven got a burst of energy when the life of the party, Dorothy M. Flavin, arrived there on February 18, 2026.

The eternally young Dorothy, of Pittsburgh, PA, spent her entire life seeking fun, cracking jokes, and impressing others with her seemingly boundless energy. In her fashionable outfits and with her hair always styled just so, Dorothy worked her magic as a beautician for more than 65 years. Stray hairs and difficult cowlicks were no match for Dorothy’s discerning eye and skillful scissors. She relished her time in the beauty shop making her clients, friends, and family look their best. When she wasn’t “doing hair,” Dorothy hit up the best restaurants, sales, and beaches that she could find, usually with a fun cocktail in hand.

After arriving in Heaven, Dorothy was surely welcomed by her husband, Edward Flavin, her parents, Harry and Constance Bosack, her sister, Harriet Kineavy (Rich), and honorary grandson Kyle Houpt, as well as many other family members and friends who patiently waited for the moment they could welcome her back into their arms.

Dorothy leaves behind a large, adoring family who are determined to carry on her legacy of enjoying all this world has to offer. That brood includes her children, Mary Lynn Donaldson (Bill), Paula Hart, and Michael Flavin; brother William Bosack (Nancy, deceased); niece/honorary daughter Donna Houpt (Tom, deceased); grandchildren Brandon Hart, Lauren Ramakrishna (Ashwin), Brian Donaldson (Lauren Pisani), Brittany Moran (Tom), Ryan Flavin, Brianna Hart, and honorary grandson Shane Houpt; and many other nieces and nephews who were adoring witnesses to her antics.

Dorothy’s youngest fans are her two great-grandchildren, Griffin and Ainsley. Their Dodo, as they affectionately call her, wasn’t afraid to get down on the floor to play, always brought the best treats, and definitely didn’t listen when their parents said the kids couldn’t have another doughnut.

Dorothy was ecstatic when she found out that another great-grandchild is expected this summer. While she won’t be around to sneak the new little one copious amounts of chocolate, her family is quite sure she will find a way to share her thoughts on nursery décor and baby’s first haircut from across the great divide.
