Annette T. (Delsignore) Bodnar

Annette DelSignore (Bodnar) aka "Grandma Precious" 76, of McKeesport, Pa left this world on December 1, 2016 at West Penn Hospitals Hospice unit in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Annette was born in McKeesport to Yolanda Marie (Ingel) DelSignore and Sylvester Cosimo DelSignore on November 2, 1940. She went to McKeesport high school and graduated in 1958.
Annette was a flight attendant and hair stylist before she had children. She was an intelligent, kind, funny, physically beautiful woman who loved to laugh. She was known for her love of makeup, especially her false eyelashes.
Not long after Annette had her first 2 children, in her early 20s, she began experiencing symptoms of schizophrenia. She lived the rest of her life mentally ill. She had a very difficult life and experienced a lot of stigmatization and unkindness because of her illness. She suffered emotionally and psychologically more than most of us can imagine. We share this very personal information for various reasons. First and fore most we share it to continue to bring mental illness out of the shadows, to break the cycle of shame and stigmatization and subsequently to honor her tenacity, courage and strength. We also share this in hope that even one person may read this and find more understanding and compassion for others who live in her same situation.
Annette is preceded in death by her mother- Yolanda DelSignore, her father, Sylvester DelSignore. Her sister, Sylvia Kelly. Her great grandson, Mason Stas.
Annette is survived by her children:
Natalie (Stas) Walters and her husband Joel of Mystic, CT. John Stas and his wife Amanda of Columbia, SC. Jason Bodnar and his wife Amanda of Glenshaw, PA.

For reflection~
"Tell me to snap out of it
if they only knew how hard I have tried
if only they knew how man tears I have cried

Snap out of it, everyone says
I wish they knew it doesnt work that way
And understand the hurtful things they say

If only I could snap out of it
Chase away the darkness in my head
Want to live as much as I wish I were dead

Id snap out of it if I could
Id love to feel like myself again
Think of the future instead of the end"
